Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He holds a Master of Medical Management (MMM) from the University of Southern California, which further enhances his ability to lead and innovate in the healthcare field.

Healthcare Leadership and Experience

With a robust background in healthcare management, Dr. Smith has served as Chief Medical Officer at Steward Health Care and IASIS Healthcare, overseeing operations at multiple hospitals and outpatient facilities. His leadership extends to improving emergency medical services as a Medical Director for fire and medical departments across Arizona, where he develops EMS protocols and trains first responders.

Medical Education and Mentorship

Dr. Smith is passionate about teaching the next generation of healthcare providers, having been a faculty member at A.T. Still University School of Medicine. Through his mentorship, he helps shape the future of medicine, instilling the importance of compassionate care and effective leadership.

Dr. Gary A. Smith is the founder of Family Doctors of Arizona, LLC, and the East Valley/Public Safety Wellness Center, LLC, a clinic dedicated to supporting public safety professionals. He also founded Triage Solutions, LLC, which focuses on dispatch protocols and mobile healthcare in 911 systems.

Dr. Smith has been a driving force behind advancements in mobile integrated healthcare, chronic care management, remote patient monitoring, and emergency response. These efforts have improved patient outcomes and significantly reduced unnecessary emergency department visits.

Dr. Smith’s expertise covers community medicine, EMS protocols, and CPR quality metrics. Service to Faith and Family

Dr. Smith also serves as an Area Mission Specialist for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, supporting the North America Southwest and West Area Presidencies. He and his wife, Tera, previously led the California San Jose Mission, overseeing 730 missionaries from 2020 to 2023. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Smith is deeply committed to his faith, family, and community, balancing his role as a husband, father of six, and active community member.
